Ripon makes an interesting starting point for a Yorkshire walk because the historic city centre and open countryside are close together. We recorded a circular route here on Komoot. The exact distance has not been confirmed from our surviving notes, so we have kept the original map without inventing a mileage.

What to Expect from a Ripon Walk

Ripon is a compact cathedral city with stone buildings, historic streets and a market centre. The contrast between the city and the fields beyond gives this recorded outing its character. This is not a published official city history trail; the Komoot map shows our own circular walk.

Ripon has several interesting places to explore before or after a walk, including the cathedral, museums and riverside areas. We have not labelled them as stops on our route unless the GPS actually confirms that. The recording above is the right place to see which streets and paths we followed.

A Little About Ripon

Ripon's history stretches back to the early medieval period, and its cathedral remains one of the city's best-known landmarks. The market and historic street layout are reminders of Ripon's long role as a North Yorkshire centre. Parking and Visitor Information
