Ackworth is a village and civil parish in the metropolitan borough of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 5 miles east of the town of Pontefract and 8 miles south-west of the city of Wakefield.

Ackworth has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it was first mentioned in historical records. The village was originally a small agricultural settlement, and its economy was primarily based on farming and wool production.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Ackworth became a center for the Quaker movement. In 1779, the Ackworth School was founded by Quakers as a boarding school for boys and girls. The school became renowned for its progressive approach to education and attracted students from all over the world.

In the 20th century, Ackworth experienced significant growth and development, with the construction of new housing estates and the expansion of local businesses. Today, Ackworth is a thriving community with a population of around 7,000 people. It has a range of local amenities, including shops, pubs, and restaurants, and is surrounded by picturesque countryside and woodland areas.
