Altofts is a village in the county of West Yorkshire, England. It is located in the district of Wakefield and lies roughly 3 miles east of the city of Wakefield.

The history of Altofts can be traced back to the 11th century when the village was part of the manor of Normanton. By the 13th century, Altofts had become an important centre for the wool trade, with many local farmers keeping sheep and producing wool for export.

In the 19th century, Altofts underwent significant changes with the arrival of the railways. The village became a hub for the transportation of coal from nearby mines and also developed a thriving brick-making industry. Many of the houses and buildings in the village were constructed using bricks made locally.

During World War II, Altofts played a role in the war effort, with the local airfield being used as a base for RAF bombers. The village also suffered some damage during the war, with several houses and buildings being destroyed in bombing raids.

Today, Altofts remains a small but thriving village with a population of around 3,500 people. The village has a number of amenities including shops, pubs, and a primary school. Despite its small size, Altofts has a rich history and is an important part of the heritage of West Yorkshire.
