The Dark Arches, Leeds
The Dark Arches are a series of brick arches located beneath the railway station in Leeds, England. They were constructed in the mid-19th century as part of the Leeds and Bradford Railway, which was one of the earliest railways in the country.
The arches were built to support the railway tracks and provide storage space for goods that were being transported by train. They were also used as workshops and as a location for various businesses, including a brewery, a paper mill, and a laundry.
Over time, the arches fell into disrepair and were abandoned. However, in the 1980s, a regeneration project was undertaken to transform the arches into a series of interconnected tunnels that would house bars, restaurants, and other businesses.
Today, the Dark Arches are a popular destination for visitors to Leeds, with a variety of shops, cafes, and bars located within the tunnels. The arches have also been used as a location for several films and television shows, including the BBC drama "Peaky Blinders".
Always loved the dark arches, they scare me a bit....
