Discovering Something New in Yorkshire

At Whiteshire, we love sharing stories about how life in Yorkshire is shaped by the places we visit and the choices we make. Three years ago, outdoor cooking wasn’t something I thought much about. But a client’s request for an outdoor kitchen — complete with a pizza oven — set me on a path I didn’t expect.

That journey took Lyn and me to the Harrogate Homebuilding & Renovating Show, where we met the team from The Pizza Oven Shop. They explained how versatile wood‑fired ovens can be — not just for pizzas, but breads, roasts, and even desserts. It was a spark of inspiration that stayed with us.

Designing Our Own Outdoor Kitchen

Back home in Ackworth, we began to wonder: could this be something for us? Lyn’s office roof projects out 1.8 metres — part of my design, but never intended as an outdoor kitchen. Still, it gave us the perfect starting point.

With the help of Wood Stock Timber Yard, we built a frame and created a layout that worked for our space. Then we ordered our Igneus Pizza Oven. It arrived just in time for Christmas, and from that moment, weekends at home took on a whole new rhythm.

Outdoor Living, Yorkshire Style

For the past three years, whatever the weather, we’ve cooked outside. Rain, frost, or sunshine — the oven has become the centrepiece of our weekends. From wood‑fired pizzas to slow‑roasted meats, fresh bread, and even desserts, it’s given us a new way to enjoy our home and celebrate the outdoors.

Cooking outside isn’t just about food. It’s about gathering, experimenting, and making memories. It’s about embracing the Yorkshire spirit — resilient, creative, and always ready to make the most of what we have.

Three Years On

This Christmas marks three years since we installed our Igneus pizza oven, and I can say in all honesty that it has changed our lives. What started as a client’s request has become one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

Outdoor cooking isn’t a fad. For us, it’s a way of life — and part of what makes Whiteshire living so special.
