Scarborough at a Glance

PARKING

North Yorkshire Council lists Castle Road, West Pier, South Bay underground, North Terrace and other Scarborough car parks. For a day visit, the Filey Road and Seamer Road park-and-ride sites are scheduled to run daily from 29 March to 1 November 2026, with buses around every 20 minutes. Check the council car-park directory and park-and-ride page for current charges, restrictions and seasonal operation.

TOILETS

North Yorkshire Council lists public toilets at West Pier, Vincent Pier, St Nicholas Gardens on Foreshore Road, Peasholm Park, the North Bay Beach Management Centre and South Cliff Gardens. Opening times and accessible facilities vary; check the council's public-toilets directory before visiting.

ACCESSIBILITY

Scarborough has steep streets, slopes and steps between the town centre, castle headland, North Bay and South Bay. Not every historic venue or coastal path is step-free. Plan access using the individual attraction's information and check suitable seafront routes, parking and toilets in advance.

Discover Scarborough

Scarborough is a Yorkshire seaside town with two distinctive bays separated by the headland crowned by Scarborough Castle. The South Bay has the harbour and traditional seafront attractions, while the North Bay offers a different stretch of coast and access to Peasholm Park.

Explore the town on foot, enjoy the seafront and discover local shops, food, accommodation and events. The steep streets and steps between parts of town are worth bearing in mind when planning a visit.

Read A Long Weekend in Scarborough for our own visit, including Market Hall, The Vaults and our stay near the castle. You can follow our Scarborough Circular Walk around North Bay and Peasholm Park, or try the free Scarborough Mystery Walk through the Old Town.
