A New Way to Find What’s On in Yorkshire – The White Shire Events Guide

Finding something interesting to do in Yorkshire shouldn’t mean searching through dozens of different websites, only to discover that half the events have already happened.

So we’ve been working on a new way to make The White Shire’s What’s On section more useful.

We’ve rebuilt our Yorkshire events guides around one simple idea: show you what’s coming up, make it easy to find events in your part of Yorkshire, and help you discover some of the smaller local events that are often easy to miss.

Whether you’re planning the next few weeks, looking for something to do this weekend or simply fancy discovering somewhere different, you can now explore what’s happening across Yorkshire in several different ways.

A Rolling Four-Week Guide to Yorkshire Events

Rather than building a traditional monthly calendar that quickly becomes filled with events that have already happened, our main What’s On guide now works on a rolling four-week basis.

As time moves forward, so does the guide.

That means you can concentrate on what’s actually coming up rather than scrolling through weeks of expired listings.

New events are regularly added to The White Shire, keeping the guide moving forward and giving you fresh ideas for days out across Yorkshire.

Find Events in Your Part of Yorkshire

Yorkshire is a big place, and you might not always want to search the whole county.

That’s why we’ve created separate What’s On guides for each part of Yorkshire.

Our regional guides cover West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and East Yorkshire, from the cities and larger towns to smaller communities, villages and rural areas.

You can explore What’s On in West Yorkshire, What’s On in North Yorkshire, What’s On in South Yorkshire or What’s On in East Yorkshire to see what’s coming up in the part of Yorkshire that suits you.

Each guide moves forward with the calendar, so you can concentrate on upcoming events rather than old listings.

What’s On This Weekend in Yorkshire

Sometimes you don’t want to plan four weeks ahead.

You just want to know what’s happening this weekend.

We’ve created a dedicated What’s On This Weekend guide for exactly that.

Instead of working through the full four-week listings, you can see events taking place over the coming weekend and quickly find somewhere interesting to go.

And we’ve added something new to make that even easier.

Explore This Weekend’s Events on the Map

Our new interactive Yorkshire events map lets you see where this weekend’s events are actually happening.

Each event is marked on the map. Tap a marker and you’ll see the event name, date, location, a short description and a link taking you directly to the official event information.

You can also filter the map between All Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and East Yorkshire.

So if you’re looking for something reasonably close to home, you can narrow the map down to one region. Or select All and see what’s happening across Yorkshire.

The map and weekend listings work together, giving you two quick ways to decide where you fancy going.

We’re Looking Beyond the Biggest Events

There are already plenty of places online where you can find Yorkshire’s biggest concerts, festivals and major attractions.

We don’t want The White Shire to become another copy of those sites.

We’re particularly interested in the things that can be much easier to miss: village shows, agricultural shows, community events, local markets, heritage days, independent food events, fairs, unusual activities and smaller celebrations.

That doesn’t mean we’ll ignore the big events. It means we’ll try to put them alongside the smaller ones that don’t always receive the same publicity.

For us, some of the best things happening in Yorkshire aren’t necessarily the things with the biggest advertising budgets.

Turn an Event into a Yorkshire Day Out

An event doesn’t necessarily have to be the whole day.

It can be an excuse to visit a Yorkshire town you’ve never explored, discover a village you didn’t know much about or turn an afternoon out into a full day.

While you’re planning, have a look around The White Shire for more ideas.

You can discover Yorkshire walks, attractions, places to visit and other ideas for exploring the county.

So if you’ve found an event somewhere you’ve never visited before, don’t necessarily drive there, attend the event and drive straight home. Have a look at what else is nearby and make a day of it.

We’re constantly looking for new events to add.

If you’re organising something in Yorkshire, particularly a local, independent, community or unusual event, we’d like to hear about it.

And it doesn’t have to be enormous.

Some of the events we’re most interested in are precisely the ones that might otherwise struggle to get noticed.
