Helmsley Circular Walk – About 4 Miles

Helmsley is a North Yorkshire market town with a castle, old stone streets and the North York Moors on the doorstep. Lyn and I walked a circular of approximately four miles here. I forgot to stop the GPS recording before we drove away, so Komoot's recorded total includes some of the drive home. We've kept the original route and photographs.

Parking and Visitor Information
Helmsley has council car parks at Cleveland Way and Market Place, and a public pay-and-display car park beside Helmsley Castle. The North Yorkshire Council car park directory has current parking information. Helmsley has cafés, pubs and shops around the Market Place.
For visitors to the castle, English Heritage lists toilets, admission information and opening times.
A Little History
Helmsley Castle began as a medieval fortress and later became an Elizabethan mansion. It was besieged during the Civil War, and its ruins remain one of the town's main landmarks. Helmsley's Market Place and traditional buildings reflect its long role as a centre for this part of North Yorkshire.
