Brayton is a North Yorkshire village just outside Selby. Lyn and I recorded this 4.74-mile circular through the village and surrounding countryside, with Brayton Barff and the area's older buildings adding interest to the landscape.

A Little Yorkshire History

Brayton's roots go back to medieval times, and St Wilfrid's Church is a reminder of how old this community is. Its oldest surviving fabric dates from the twelfth century. The church has an unusually rich Romanesque doorway and a slender spire, with later medieval and Victorian additions. Historic England lists it at Grade I. Nearby Brayton Barff is a wooded hill that stands out in the otherwise low-lying countryside around Selby. The mix of village history and rural landscape is what gives this area its character.
