Dona’s Caffe
Out and About: Dona’s Caffe and Deli, Pontefract
I’ve been meaning to visit Dona’s Caffè and Deli in Pontefract for a while, and yesterday I finally got the chance to call in with a friend. I’m pleased to say it was well worth the visit.
Dona’s is on Baghill Lane, just after you turn onto the road from the town centre end. There’s some parking directly outside, and although it might not be the sort of location where you’d expect to find a lovely little café and deli, don’t let that put you off.
Step inside and it’s a completely different story. The interior has been really well designed, with a cosy and welcoming feel that makes you want to settle in rather than rush off. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit, but never made us feel hurried.

We both went for one of the focaccias. I chose the prosciutto and mozzarella, while my friend had the sautéed mushrooms and fontina cheese. Both were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented.
We’d gone in fully intending to follow them with something from the tempting selection of cakes on display, but the focaccias were so filling that neither of us could manage another bite. That does, of course, give me a perfectly good excuse to go back.
Another thing I really liked was that Dona’s uses Recent Beans coffee. It’s always good to see a Yorkshire business supporting another Yorkshire-based company, and it fitted perfectly with the relaxed café experience.
Dona’s Caffè and Deli was somewhere I’d been curious about for a while, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Good food, a warm atmosphere, friendly service and somewhere that feels a little different from the usual town-centre café.
I’ll definitely be going back — and next time I’m making sure I leave room for cake.
