Live Music & Entertainment in Yorkshire – Find Your Next Night Out

Yorkshire has no shortage of places to go for a night out, but finding everything in one place can be surprisingly difficult.

A gig might be listed on a pub Facebook page, a comedy night on a theatre website, an open mic hidden on a community calendar and a small village-hall show almost impossible to find unless you already know about it.

That is exactly why we built our new Live Music & Entertainment in Yorkshire page.

It brings together hundreds of current and forthcoming events from across West, North, South and East Yorkshire, ranging from major touring shows to the sort of smaller local nights that are often much harder to discover.

More Than Just the Big Venues

We did not want another listings page dominated by arenas and large theatres.

They are included when there is something worthwhile happening, but The White Shire has always been about finding the places that are easy to miss.

That means our entertainment listings also include independent music venues, pubs, social clubs, arts centres, community halls and smaller theatres.

You will find live bands, singer-songwriters, folk, jazz, blues, rock, soul, tribute acts, comedy, theatre, cabaret, open mic nights and selected club nights.

Some events cost very little. Some are completely free.

Others might be a touring act you would normally expect to see in a much larger venue.

Live Entertainment Across Yorkshire

The page is divided across all four Yorkshire regions, making it much easier to find something reasonably close to home.

West Yorkshire

Leeds naturally has a huge amount going on, but we are also looking beyond the city centre.

Our listings include venues and events in places such as Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Wakefield, Halifax, Bradford, Bingley, Keighley, Otley, Ilkley, Marsden and smaller surrounding communities.

That could mean a band at the Brudenell Social Club one evening and a folk night in a village hall the next.

North Yorkshire

York, Scarborough, Whitby and Harrogate feature strongly, but we are also deliberately looking at smaller places including Settle, Richmond, Helmsley, Malton, Skipton, Thirsk and Northallerton.

Some of the best nights we have found are in small theatres and independent venues that many people simply would not think to check.

South Yorkshire

Sheffield has a brilliant grassroots music and comedy scene, but there is plenty happening beyond the city too.

Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster all have strong theatre, music and comedy programmes, alongside smaller independent venues and community events.

East Yorkshire

Hull has some excellent independent music venues, but we are also covering Beverley, Bridlington, Pocklington and other East Yorkshire towns.

From small acoustic nights to theatre, comedy and tribute shows, there is far more happening around East Yorkshire than many people realise.

Finding Something Different

One of the things we particularly want the page to do is encourage people to try somewhere new.

It is easy to keep going back to the same venue because you know what is there.

But sometimes the best night out is in a small room above a pub, a local arts centre, an old town hall or a venue you have driven past dozens of times without ever going inside.

That is where we think The White Shire can be genuinely useful.

Rather than simply listing the biggest events, we are trying to uncover the interesting ones.

What Can You Find?

The Live Music & Entertainment in Yorkshire page currently covers a broad mixture of nights out, including live music, comedy, theatre, tribute shows, jazz, folk, blues, open mics, cabaret, grassroots festivals and selected DJ and club nights.

Listings include dates, venues, locations and links through to the official source wherever possible.

The idea is simple: choose your region, have a look through what is coming up and hopefully find somewhere worth going.

Kept Current

A listings page is only useful if it stays current.

The entertainment section is regularly updated, with expired events removed from the live results and new verified events added as they are announced.

We are also deliberately keeping several weeks of future events on the page rather than letting everything disappear at the end of each month.

That means it should be useful whether you are looking for something to do tonight, next weekend or a few weeks ahead.

Looking for More Things to Do in Yorkshire?

Live entertainment is only one part of The White Shire.

For fairs, festivals, family events, local markets and other things happening around the county, head to our main What’s On in Yorkshire section.

If you would rather spend the day outside, our Yorkshire Walks collection contains routes that Lyn and I have personally walked and recorded.

And for somewhere to stop before or after a day out, have a look at our Independent Coffee Shops in Yorkshire listings.

Find Your Next Yorkshire Night Out

We want the entertainment page to become somewhere you can genuinely browse when you fancy going out but do not yet know where.

Not just the big names.

Not just the city centres.

But the pubs, clubs, independent venues, theatres, community halls and smaller Yorkshire places where some of the best nights are happening.

Have a look at Live Music & Entertainment in Yorkshire and see what is coming up near you.
