Nutkin Cottage – A Magical Stay in Hawes

Introduction: Yorkshire Dales Cottage Stay

When Lyn and I stopped at Nutkin Cottage just outside Hawes, it felt like stepping into another world. This 16th‑century cottage has been lovingly cared for, and the sense of history is everywhere you look. For anyone searching for Yorkshire Dales accommodation or a Hawes cottage stay, this place offers charm, comfort, and a true step back in time.

A Cottage Full of Character

Nutkin Cottage has a private south‑facing garden, perfect for enjoying the sunshine. Inside, it’s beautifully furnished with antique pieces, a deep bath, and a log‑burning stove that made our evenings wonderfully cosy. Period furniture and thoughtful details give the cottage a magical atmosphere that lingers long after you leave.

Location: Hawes Accommodation with Walks from the Door

The cottage is only a five‑minute walk into Hawes, or even quicker if you wander across the field. From the doorstep, river walks stretch out in every direction, and if you’re lucky, you might spot red squirrels along the way. Staying here gave us the perfect balance of peace and easy access to the town.

Exploring Hawes and Local Shops

Hawes itself is full of character, with independent shops, a good selection of pubs, a great butcher, and a greengrocer where we picked up fresh produce. With the cottage’s well‑equipped kitchen, dining in was simple and enjoyable.

Days Out Near Hawes

The area around Hawes is packed with places to explore. Hardraw Force, England’s tallest single‑drop waterfall, is just a short walk away — and there’s a welcoming pub nearby too. Aysgarth Falls is another highlight, with beautiful cascades and woodland paths. Lake Semerwater, only five miles away, is perfect for a circular walk with stunning views. And for those who love history and adventure, castles and the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks are all within easy reach.

Our Experience at Nutkin Cottage

We really enjoyed our time at Nutkin Cottage. Between the antique furnishings, the cosy stove, and the walks straight from the door, it gave us a stay that felt both relaxing and full of character. It’s the kind of place that lingers in your memory, and one we’d happily return to again.
