What’s On in Yorkshire: Discover Our New Yorkshire Events Guides

There is always something happening somewhere in Yorkshire. From agricultural shows and food festivals to live music, heritage celebrations, family days out, Christmas markets and traditional events, the White Rose County has a packed calendar throughout the year.

To make finding those events easier, I’ve introduced new What’s On in Yorkshire pages to The White Shire, bringing together events from across the county in one simple place.

Whether you’re looking for something to do this weekend, planning a trip to another part of Yorkshire or simply wondering what’s happening locally, the new guides are designed to help you discover more of what Yorkshire has to offer.

What’s On in Yorkshire

The main What’s On in Yorkshire section brings together events from across the county, with event names, locations, dates and information to help you decide where to go.

Rather than concentrating solely on Yorkshire’s larger cities, I want The White Shire to include events taking place in towns, villages and communities throughout the county.

From a village agricultural show to one of Yorkshire’s major music festivals, they all form part of what makes the county such an interesting place to explore.

What’s On in West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire has an enormous variety of events, particularly around Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Pontefract, Huddersfield, Halifax and the surrounding towns and villages.

The West Yorkshire guide covers everything from horse racing and festivals to food and drink events, heritage days, markets, live entertainment and seasonal celebrations.

It also gives me an opportunity to feature some of the smaller local events that can easily get overlooked when searching the larger national events websites.

What’s On in North Yorkshire

With the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast all within its boundaries, North Yorkshire has a particularly varied events calendar.

The new North Yorkshire What's On page covers places including Harrogate, Ripon, Thirsk, Northallerton, Whitby, Scarborough and the surrounding countryside and villages.

Country shows, steam railway events, food festivals, coastal events, heritage weekends and Christmas celebrations all have a place in the guide.

Accommodation in Yorkshire

What’s On in South Yorkshire

Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley provide another completely different mix of Yorkshire events.

South Yorkshire's calendar includes major music festivals and concerts alongside markets, sporting events, food festivals, community celebrations and family days out.

The aim is the same: to provide a straightforward place where you can see what's happening and find something that interests you.

What’s On in East Yorkshire

East Yorkshire combines historic market towns with some of Yorkshire's best-known seaside resorts.

The East Yorkshire What's On guide covers Hull, Beverley, Bridlington, Driffield, Hornsea and the surrounding area, with coastal events, food festivals, live entertainment, markets and family days out among the events featured.

It makes a useful companion to The White Shire's growing collection of Yorkshire attractions and walks, particularly if you're planning a day or weekend on the Yorkshire coast.

Monthly Yorkshire Events Guides

Alongside the regional pages, I'm also developing monthly What's On in Yorkshire guides.

These are designed for searches such as what's on in Yorkshire this weekend, Yorkshire events this month and things to do in Yorkshire in August.

Instead of having to search West, North, South and East Yorkshire separately, the monthly guide brings events from across the whole county together and puts them into date order.

That should make it particularly useful when you're happy to travel and simply want to know what's happening in Yorkshire next.

The White Shire Events

More Than Just an Events Calendar

The What's On pages are part of the wider development of The White Shire as an online Yorkshire directory.

The site already brings together Yorkshire walks, attractions, businesses, food, accommodation, local history and other ideas for exploring the county.

The events guides add another piece to that.

You might discover an event in a Yorkshire town you've never visited before, find a nearby walk for the morning, visit a historic attraction in the afternoon and finish the day at the event that originally brought you there.

That's exactly how I'd like The White Shire to be used — as somewhere that encourages people to explore more of Yorkshire.

Keeping Yorkshire Events Up to Date

Events can change. Dates can move, venues can change and occasionally events have to be cancelled.

I'll continue adding events and updating the What's On pages as new information becomes available. I would always recommend checking the event organiser's official website before travelling, particularly for ticketed events or those affected by the weather. The site already carries this advice alongside its events listings.
