A Stay at Chapel House, Pocklington

A Quirky Converted Chapel

In 2018, Lyn and I stayed at Chapel House in Pocklington with our grandson, who was a toddler at the time.

Built in 1857 and later converted into holiday accommodation, Chapel House is full of character. It was a lovely, quirky place to stay and offered something completely different from a conventional cottage or apartment.

An Unusual Upside-Down Layout

The accommodation is arranged over two floors. The bedroom is on the ground floor, while the open-plan living room and kitchen are on the first floor.

This upside-down layout makes excellent use of the original chapel building. The first-floor living space retains much of its character, including the high ceiling, exposed roof timbers and Gothic-style windows.

The property was beautifully presented, lovely and warm, and provided everything we needed for a comfortable family stay.

Close to Pocklington Town Centre

Chapel House is in a quiet location but remains convenient for Pocklington town centre. The shops, cafés, pubs and other amenities of this historic East Yorkshire market town are only a short walk away.

The Pocklington Community Hub provides useful information about local amenities, community groups and things to do in and around the town.

You can also discover current activities and events through The White Shire’s What’s On in East Yorkshire page.

Private Parking and Walks from the Door

Chapel House has its own private parking, which made arriving and exploring the wider area straightforward.

There are also walks from the front door, allowing visitors to explore Pocklington and the surrounding countryside without having to drive elsewhere first.

Somewhere We Would Happily Visit Again

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chapel House. It was warm, beautifully presented and full of character, while its location made it convenient for both Pocklington town centre and local walks.

We would definitely stay there again. It is clearly a popular property, as it always seems to be booked whenever we plan another visit to Pocklington.
